Getting started
What work does Black&White Construction undertake?
Our core services are full renovations, new builds and interior finishing. The project stories also show kitchen and bathroom renovation work. Tell us what you have in mind so we can discuss whether your project is a good fit.
Which areas do you cover?
Black&White Construction is based in Taunton, Somerset. Include your project’s town or postcode when you enquire so we can confirm whether we can help at your location.
How do I enquire about a quotation?
Use the enquiry form, call, email or use the WhatsApp or Facebook links in our contact section. Include a short description of the work, your location and any photographs or drawings you already have.
See contact options ↗Do I need drawings before getting in touch?
You can start the conversation with an outline of your ideas. If you already have plans, measurements or a specification, share them. The drawings and technical information needed will depend on the proposed work.
Planning your project
How much will my renovation cost?
The size of the job, the existing condition of the property, access and your choice of finishes all affect the cost. A useful starting point is a clear list of the work you want done and the budget you have in mind. Confirm what is included, excluded and still to be decided before agreeing a price.
How long will the work take, and when can it start?
Timing depends on the scope, material lead times, any necessary approvals and current availability. Discuss your preferred dates at the enquiry stage and agree a project-specific programme before making arrangements around the work.
Will I need planning permission?
It depends on the proposal and the property. Check with your local planning authority before starting work if you are unsure. Planning permission and building regulations approval are separate matters.
GOV.UK: planning permission ↗What about building regulations approval?
Building regulations approval can be required even when planning permission is not. Check which approvals and inspections apply to your particular work, and agree who is responsible for arranging them before work starts.

Can I stay at home during a renovation?
This needs to be assessed for the individual project. Consider safe access, dust, noise and whether your kitchen, bathroom, electricity or water will be unavailable. Discuss these practicalities before deciding whether to remain in the property.
Can I choose my own fittings and materials?
Bring your preferences, product details and any samples to the discussion. Before ordering, agree who will supply each item and check measurements, compatibility and delivery dates against the planned work.
What happens if I want to change the scope?
Raise proposed changes as early as possible. Ask for the effect on the price, materials and programme to be set out and agreed in writing before the additional work goes ahead.
What should I organise before work begins?
Discuss access, parking, deliveries, storage and the areas that need clearing. Agree arrangements for protecting belongings, removing waste and keeping neighbours informed, along with a point of contact for day-to-day questions.
